Flora Europaea perennial, G, 2n=22, diploid xeric to mesoxeric from the forest-steppe to lower nemoral area, sometimes on calcareous rocks (like in Transylvania) Pannonian-Pontic-Turanian Festucetalia valesiacae, Stipio pulcherrimae - Fescetalia pallentis, Quercetalia pubescentis R34, R4160-4162 habitats       A steppe grassland xeric to mesoxeric species which sometimes grows on limestones in the lower nemoral belt. In Transylvania it is actually encountered only in the north-eastern periphery of the Trascau Mountains (Cheile Turzii, Cheile Borzesti areas) where the steppe xeric grasslands get in touch with the low altitude calcareous massifs.
